Discovery Place Usage Policies

For Churches of the Susquehanna Conference of the UMC:


RESERVATIONS are taken for all resources.  Resources may be mailed or picked up from Discovery Place during operating hours (9:00 AM – 2:15 PM weekdays). SUMMER HOURS ( Mon. - Thurs. 9 AM - 2:15 PM, Fridays 9 AM - Noon.)  Reserved resources may also be picked up between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 AM and 2:15 and 4:00 PM at the receptionist’s desk.

USAGE FEES are not charged to Susquehanna Conference churches and their members except for equipment.

TIME ALLOWED FOR USAGE OF VIDEO SERIES: 
In order to make resources available, a series must be used on no more than a weekly basis.  Two weeks may be added (for snow days, special occasions, needing more time on one lesson, etc.).  If a series is used less frequently, then it must be returned in between uses.

SHIPPING AND HANDLING FEES will not be charged to Susquehanna Conference churches except for first class mailings, overnight, FedEx, etc.   Borrowers are always responsible, however, for the cost of return shipping.

The RETURN DATE is the day resources are to be hand delivered to Discovery Place or postmarked.   Equipment must be hand carried to Discovery Place and delivered on the due date.

OVERDUE POLICY
1.  At the end of each month Discovery Place will do a data base search for items due before the first of the current month.  A letter will be sent to all these patrons with overdue materials within this data base stating; Please return your overdue materials promptly. If any materials are not received within two weeks of the date of this notice you will be responsible to pay the replacement fee for the overdue materials. 

2. Attempts will be made by Discovery Place personnel to check the data base once a month for materials less than one month overdue, and notify these individuals they have overdue materials.

RENEWALS are possible for all resources, with the exception of kits and curriculum, if the resources are not on reserve for others.

EQUIPMENT RENTAL
*The equipment affected by this policy are as follows:

  • The video projectors -- $25 per week (Three weeks with two consecutive weekends is the maximum time that a projector may be rented. The projector then may be returned and re-reserved for an additional period of time)
  • Speakers and Video Projector -- 30.00 same check out period as video projector)
  • Speakers-- $5.00 charge  (same check out period as video projector)
*Fees are not charged for use within the Conference Center, Annual Conference and Mission Central. Equipment rental rights are exclusively for the United Methodist pastors and churches of the Susquehanna Conference Alternative arrangements regarding time and costs are at the discretion of the Discovery Place staff.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If a piece of equipment, less than three years old, is returned broken or damaged, the cost of repairs or replacement will be charged to the church or borrowing organization.  If a piece of equipment is damaged by a client, any deductible on the insurance policy will be paid by the client, whether this payment goes toward the costs of repair or replacement cost.

Outside of the Susquehanna Conference of the UMC

VIDEOS may be borrowed by churches outside of the Susquehanna Conference in the local area.  Advance reservations are recommended.  Resources may be mailed or picked up from Discovery Place during operating hours (9:00 AM – 2:15 PM weekdays).  Reserved resources may also be picked up between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 AM and 2:15 and 4:00 PM at the receptionist’s desk.
To use the resources from Discovery Place Resource Center, local Non United Methodist Churches  must pay for a subscription at Discovery Place Resource Center for $50.00 every 6 months ( July 1st  to December  31st , and   January 1st  to June 31st). 
OR
Local Non United Methodist Churches who are not subscribed members will be charged the following usage fee for each video and DVD; $5.00 per video/DVD for two weeks usage (this does not include mailing time) after the initial two weeks period, there will be an additional $1.00 per week usage fee. (With the exception of videos purchased with Ida Browning Trust funds.)

Borrowers may be charged the actual SHIPPING cost for videos mailed from Discovery Place.  Borrowers are also responsible for paying return shipping.
